Akai GX 650D reel-to-reel tape recorder.
Classic Vintage. Fully revitalized.
In our projects we do not use veneers that are thin, unreliable and, above all, not resistant to damage!
We use only the highest quality veneers,  i.e. wood sheets of 3-5mm thickness. Thanks to this solution and the bonding technology we have developed, our products are equipped with durable and beautiful enclosures.

Description

Akai GX 650D reel-to-reel tape recorder. Classic Vintage. Fully revitalized.

Akai was founded by Masukichi Akai and his son, Saburo Akai in 1929 in Tokyo. The word “Akai” in Japanese means “red”, which of course found a reference in the color of the brand’s logo. In the 1940s, the company produced music and audio equipment. The expanding range of the company included originally reel-to-reel tape recorders, cassette recorder, audio amplifiers, video cassette recorder and speakers, followed by CD, DVD and mp3 players. Some of the products were sold in the United States under the brand of Roberts, A & D in Japan and Tensai and Transonic Strato in Western Europe. At the end of the 1960s, Akai and Tandberg introduced an innovative way of recording sound that allowed recording a wider range of high frequencies. In 1984, a new branch of the company called Akai Professional was created, producing electronic musical instruments. However, in the 90s, the company reduced its range of Hi-Fi equipment. At the end of 2004, Akai Corporation was taken over by Grande Group and Akai Professional by Numark Industries due to bankruptcy.

The GX-650D was launched by AKAI in 1976. It is a tape recorder equipped with a highly efficient Closed Loop Double Capstan AC Servo motor system and the famous GX glass and ferrite heads featuring a special design that eliminates audio fading and loss of treble, improves sensitivity and provides a more dynamic range. Additionally, the signal-to-noise ratio was improved and distortion minimized. The GX-650D is a very large, extremely stable structure, distinguished by many professional solutions. It can work with the so-called “slow studio speed” of 15 tape, as well as 7-1/2 and 3-3/4 ips.

The new enlarged enclosure has been fully revitalized, made of rosewood, the wood finish is Chinese oil produced from natural oils and turpentine-based beeswax.
