Description
AKG 141 Monitor headphones. Classic Vintage. Stand included in the price.
AKG was founded in Austria in 1947 by two inhabitants of Vienna: physicist Dr. Rudolf Görike and engineer Ernst Pless. Initially, its main activity was supplying cinema equipment: loudspeakers, film projectors and light meters. The company grew and started to sell also: car horns, intercoms and headsets. The first model of headphones was the K120 DYN. It was around this time that the company developed its first patents that gave its products an extended frequency range. With the creation of the D12 microphone in 1953, AKG gained international fame by setting the standard for voice transmission. The product was later improved and this is how the famous C414 and C12 microphones were created.
In 1984, AKG became a public company listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange. It was taken over by the US company Harman International Industries in 1994. In 2010, it received the prestigious Technical Grammy Award and announced a partnership with Quincy Jones to produce a distinctive line of headphones with stylized designs and modified drivers.
In 2016, it was announced that the AKG Vienna buildings would close in 2017 and the headquarters would be moved to California, USA. Most of the current AKG products are manufactured at Harman’s overseas production facilities.
The K 141 Monitor are iconic semi-open dynamic headphones that don’t distort the sound even at high volume. According to the Billboard ranking, they are the studio model most often used in American recording studios. Thanks to their semi-open construction and dynamic drivers, the bass is energetic and the treble is extremely spacious. The 600 Ohm resistance is perfect for work in the studio (e.g. connecting multiple headphones at the same time).
Old pads have been replaced with properly selected substitutes made of eco leather, which were moisturized and protected with a balm based on lanolin, aloe, beeswax and Carnauba wax.
Included in the set are specially designed and hand-made solid headphone stands. The material is plywood varnished using the automotive wet painting technique, which gives the stands a beautiful look and makes them very pleasant to the touch. Felt pads have been affixed to the base to prevent furniture scratches.
