Armchair AGA PRL designed by prof. Józef Chierowski. Fully revitalised.
Manufactured in Starachowickie Zakłady Przemysłu Drzewnego in Radomsko in the 1960s/1970s.
During WWII Radomsko was under the German occupation within the General Government. First, the Germans have confiscated all the furniture stored in the Thonet Mundus factory warehouses, then they commenced production for the benefit of the German army. Mazovia factory was shut down. Thonet Mundus and Ksawery Wünsche i Spółka were active until the end of WWII. In 1945 both factories were nationalised and functioned as separate companies called Fabryka Mebli Giętych Nr 1 formerly known as Thonet Mundus and Fabryka Mebli Giętych Nr 2 formerly know as Ksawery Wünsche i Spółka. On 1st January 1951 the two factiories merged into a company called Radomszczańskie Zakłady Przemysłu Drzewnego. In 1959 the factory’s name was changed to Zakłady Mebli Giętych Fameg.
The AGA PRL armchair is one of the most popular models as far as post war domestic design is concerned. It was designed by prof. Józef Chierowski. It was mass produced in the 1960s and 1970s in order to meet the need for small furniture which could fit into small flats of that era. As it turns out, it’s still on trend, but with a slight modern twist. It’s a universal model with a beautiful LINE and unusual legs.
The armchair has been disassembled, the old coats of varnish fully removed, the armchair has then been glued together again, treated with Chinese natural and eco-friendly oil. Beech. New upholstery, foam, webbing, interfacing. Hand sewn. High quality fabric, durable, able to withstand 20 000 double rubs. New metal screws. Internal scaffolding has been sanded down thoroughly and coated with a protective layer. Cult armchair model from the Polish People’s Republic (PRL) era.
