Club armchair from the PRL, Lisek, designed by Henryk Lis. Manufactured by Dolnośląska Fabryka Mebli in Świebodzice. Fully revitalised.

Świebodzice, a smaill town in the Dolny Śląsk region of Poland, had already been exceptionally industrialised before the incorporation of this region into the postwar Polish boarders. There was a large number of carpentry factories among all the manufacturing plants which were operating in this town before 1939 and during the II World War. The new comunist goverment decided to continue the  development of wood industry and this is how Państwowa Fabryka Mebli (The National Furniture Factory) no 10 came to life.

It is presumed that the factory called Dolnośląska Fabryka Mebli w Świebodzicach started to operate in 1948. The ideological slogans which accompanied the development of the economy were also used to promote the furniture industry. In a trade journal from that period you can find this statement illustrating how to complement the value of good furniture with socialist ideological goals:

“The furniture produced by the industry should not only be of good quality but also have appropriate artistic forms to shape a new culture of living of a working man who’s building socialism”

(Przemysł Drzewny no 1, Warsaw 1953).

The armchair has been disassembled, the old coats of varnish fully removed, the armchair then has been glued together again, treated with Chinese natural and eco-friendly oil. Beech, new upholstery, foam, webbing, and interfacing. Hand sewn. Very high quality fabric, durable, able to withstand 30 000 double rubs. New metal screws. Internal scaffolding has been sanded down. Cult Lisek model but with a twist.
