IKEA was founded in Sweden by 17-year-old carpenter Ingvar Kamprad in 1943. The name is an acronym derived from the name of the founder and the words Elmtaryd and Agunnaryd (the farm and town where he grew up). In June 2019, 423 IKEA stores were opened in 52 countries. In 1990, the company launched the first Start Shop in Poland in Warsaw’s Ursynów, where mainly interior accessories were available. After two years, the first IKEA store with a full assortment was opened at Aleje Jerozolimskie in Warsaw, and the oldest still operating store in Janki was opened in 1995. Currently, Poland is the world’s second largest producer of the furniture sold in IKEA stores after China. IKEA signed the first contract for furniture production with the state-owned Fameg factory in 1961, and in 2010 it cooperated with 60 Polish subcontractors.
FUSION table and 4 chairs is an iconic retro set designed by Sandra Kragnert. It was produced by IKEA in the 21st century in many different renditions, but its design referred to the kitchen furniture of the 50s and 60s.The presented chairs come from a set made of ash plywood. The wood has been stripped of old coatings and secured with environmentally friendly oil produced from natural Chinese oils. The hard seat (0.5 cm high) has been replaced. The new high-density foam (3 cm high) and good-quality soft colour fabric emphasize the beautiful design of the chairs, and above all make sitting on them a real pleasure. Old coatings were also removed from the metal legs, which were then painted using the automotive wet painting technique. Soft mint colour varnish (perfectly matching the upholstery) was used and secured with a layer of transparent matt finish.
