In 1937 Nozomu Matsumoto created the first magnetoelectric speaker in Japan, and a year later, in Tokyo, he registered the company under the name Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho. In 1961, the company’s name was changed to Pioneer Electronic Corporation. However, the breakthrough came in 1962, when the company entered the Tokyo Stock Exchange and created the world’s first stereo system with speakers in separate housings. Four years later, Pioneer opened branches in the USA and in Europe. In 1978, the company created one of the best-known and most powerful receivers in its history SX-1980. Pioneer can also be proud of great successes in the world of auto-moto, as it introduced in 1975 the world’s first automotive stereo subassembly, then in 1984 a CD player and GPS navigation in 1990. The company also played a major role in the development of DVDs, plasma TVs and technologies Organic LED display (OLED). The company is currently part of Pioneer & Onkyo Corporation.
The Exclusive M5 are class A power amplifiers (monoblocks) launched on the Japanese market by Pioneer in 1982, the “golden era” of audio. It is a unique and significantly improved version of the M4 bestseller, which was immediately appreciated by experts thanks to its power, extraordinary workmanship and excellent sound. The power amp does not generate any distortion. It is equipped with the unique M5 power system, which has a dedicated power supply for Class A deviation. The special design of the power supply and circuitry enables an amazing 300W of power. In addition, the dedicated foil capacitor prevents vibrations in mid and high frequency range, which means it achieves extremely pure sound. Power transformers are designed in a way to achieve low leakage flux and stable regulation. The winding uses a polyester-coated oxygen-free copper wire with a cross-section twice as large as an ordinary one. A non-conductive and non-magnetic resin was used in the transformer enclosure, and silicon carbide powder, a radio waves absorber, was added to the filler to reduce distortion. Also, vibrations are reduced by separating the main body of the transformer from the frame with rubber. The resistance of the conductor was reduced to about 1/3 by changing the base material from conventional brass to pure copper.
The Exclusive C3a is a classic Class A stereo preamplifier launched by Pioneer in 1981, the “golden era” of audio. The technical specification of the C3a is impressive as it was designed using advanced technology and carefully selected top quality parts. Among other things, conventional epoxy resin substrates with 35 u copper foil were used. To reduce DCR (DC resistivity) and inductance, 140 u copper foil, four times thicker than conventional, was used in the substrate. The wiring material is an oxygen-free copper wire, which heavily reduces distortion. In addition, to ensure stable performance and reliability, conductive properties were improved (compared to previous models) thanks to the use of gold-plated terminals. The sound of the C3a is simply exceptional. A wide and extremely rich soundstage engages every listener. The bass is dynamic, transparent and deep. The midrange is characteristic of class A – warm and very pleasant to the ear. The highs are detailed and balanced.
The enclosures have been completely revitalized – rosewood was used. The wood finish is Chinese oil produced from natural oils, and natural turpentine-based beeswax. The metal elements of the enclosures have been cleaned and painted using the automotive wet painting technique. The devices have been fully reviewed and serviced, they have been equipped with new aluminum legs.
