Description

Wega Radio GMBH LB 3522D loudspeakers. Classic Vintage. Fully revitalized.

In 1887 Torakusu Yamaha constructed his first reed organ (free-reed keyboard instrument). 10 years later he established Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd. – a company producing pianos and organs, which in 1904 was awarded the Honorary Grand Prize at the St. Louis World’s Fair. In the following years, the company expanded its range of musical instruments adding pianos, acoustic guitars, trumpets, percussion, electric guitars, etc. It also started to produce audio equipment. First turntables were made as early as in the 20s, but the most appreciated hi-fi devices (mostly amplifiers and CD players) and complementary high quality speakers were made in the 70s and 80s. In 1955, as Yamaha Motor Company, the firm began to produce single-track vehicles, and since the beginning of the 70s professional sound equipment known today as Yamaha Pro Audio.

Wuerttembergische Radio-Gesellschaft mbh was founded in Stuttgart, Germany in the year 1923. A year later it was taken over by Hugo Mezger, the owner of a photo and radio studio, who launched first radio receivers under the Wega brand. The company itself was renamed Wega Radio GmbH in 1956. In the 70s it was famous across Europe for its stylish, high quality equipment, designed by Verner Panton and Hartmut Esslinger.  The WEGA Concept 51K sound system from 1976 is presented to this day at the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, along with other works by Esslinger (including those designed for Apple Inc.). In 1975 Wega was acquired by Sony Corporation. However, the name Wega was in use until 2005, when liquid crystal displays replaced the CRT models.

The LB-3522 are loudspeakers launched in the early 70s. In the technical specifications the producer emphasized that “this 4-drive speaker is an absolutely top product”. Two dome systems ensure perfect reproduction of sound in mid-range and treble. The sound is beautifully balanced by deep but non-resonating bass. Due to the high power, Wega recommended this model especially to owners of bigger rooms.

The enclosures have been completely revitalized. American cherry wood adds incredible charm to the speakers. The wood finish is Chinese oil produced from natural oils, as well as natural, turpentine-based beeswax. The wood is very pleasant to the touch. High quality finishing screws. The fronts of the speakers and stands have been cleaned and painted using the automotive wet painting technique. White and black varnish were used and protected with a colourless satin one.

Included are two speaker cables with a cross section of 2 × 2.5mm and length of 2x5m.
The set is 100% functional, the speakers are in perfect condition.
