In 1928, 21-year-old Ove Hede Nielsen started a small production of radio receivers (called Herofon) in the heart of the bike factory belonging to his father. Due to the fact that production was growing, the Nielsen bought a building in Horsens, where bikes were made on the ground floor, bikes on the first floor, and radio on the second floor.

In 1943 Ove and his brother Egil took over the factory, and in 1955 the name Herofon was changed to Arena. The innovative “Trans Arena” radio powered by batteries started to be produced.

In the 1960s, the company was the largest producer of radio receivers in Denmark and took over 25% of the Danish bicycle sales market. The arena began to produce turntables and speakers, as well as stereo radios. At the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, the company received numerous awards in the design category.

After the fire in 1970, the Horsens factory was completely destroyed, and the Nielsen family sold 80% of the shares to the English company RANK. In connection with this, a new brand name was created – Rank Arena. In 1971, the investor built a new factory, where amplifiers, radios and hi-fi speakers were produced. However, the company did not withstand the competition of Japanese producers and was closed in 1975.

Rank Arena put the following description of its SK 500 headphones in the 1973 catalog:

“Dynamic, luxury stereo headphones. With an elegant leather cover. Very good playback quality. Plug-in connection cable with separate electronic mechanism for volume control of both channels.” The SK 500 model can still impress with its great sound and classic yet tasteful design.

Old pads were replaced with properly selected substitutes made of eco-leather, which were moisturized and protected with a lotion based on lanolin, aloe, beeswax and Carnauba wax.

The headband and headphones have been cleaned, moisturized and protected with a lotion based on lanolin, aloe, beeswax and carnauba wax.

Specially designed and hand-made solid headphone stands. The material is plywood, varnished using the automotive wet painting technique, which gives the stands a beautiful look and makes them very pleasant to the touch. Felt pads have been affixed to the base to prevent furniture scratches.
